Two signs that a person needs scaffolding for their building project

Posted on

Here are two signs that may indicate that a person should use scaffolding for their building project.

Working at Heights

If a person needs to do lots of complex, time-consuming work to the roof or upper exterior of a building, then they should invest in some scaffolding for their project, as using a ladder could slow them down. If for example, they need a lot of different materials and tools for this task, and they use a ladder, they'll only be able to keep a handful of these items with them at any one time, as they won't have anywhere to stow their supplies, besides their own pockets or the ladder rungs. Because of this, they'll have to go back down to the ground whenever they needed a different set of materials or tools, which could make this time-consuming work take even longer.

In contrast, if a person like this had scaffolding that they could stand on when doing their work, they would have ample space on each platform for most, if not all of their supplies, and so none of their time would be wasted going down to the ground to pick up another batch of materials. On a similar note, they would also have the option of resting by sitting down on the scaffold platform on which they're working instead of climbing down to the ground. This could also minimise the time their breaks add to the project.

Wind

If a person needs to do construction work to the exterior of a building during a period when it'll be quite windy, they should use scaffolding when working on the building's upper sections. In these conditions, using a ladder could be dangerous, as even a robust commercial ladder could easily fall over while a person is on it if it's hit by a forceful gust of wind. Even if the ladder in this situation doesn't fall over, it could still wobble to such a degree that, for example, the person on it might drop the tool so they can grab hold of the ladder with both of their hands to stabilise themselves.

Conversely, if a person opted to use scaffolding when working on a windy day, they would not need to be concerned about this equipment being blown down by the wind, as it would be tightly secured to the wall surface (the exception to this would be if a severe hurricane was occurring, but in this situation, the person should not be working outdoors at all). Furthermore, if the person on the scaffolding felt the need to put their tools down to hold onto the rail during a bout of strong winds, they could simply put these items safely on the platform, instead of having to risk breaking them by dropping them to the ground.
